China’s landscapes are very diverse, featuring towering mountains, vast plateaus, fertile river valleys, and plains in the east. China contains the world’s tallest peak, Mount Everest, massive Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and other major ranges such as Kunlun and Tianshan mountains. The eastern part of the country has fertile lowlands and plains, which are densely populated and heavily agricultural, while western and northern parts are dominated by deserts and grasslands like Gobi and Taklamankan deserts.
